This lecture introduces key economic drivers underpinning the production, distribution and acquisition of software, focusing on Software as a Service (SaaS). The lecture examines both the provider's and consumer's perspective and shows how to compare the Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) of SaaS versus traditional perpetual software licensing, using the concepts of Present Value/Future Value.
